Accrington Observer is a local newspaper that publishes weekly news, summaries, articles and other paper (and digital) supplements of the City of Accrington and its surrounding communities: Rishton, Church, Clayton le Moors, Huncoat, Baxenden, Great Harwood, Oswaldtwistle, and Altham. This city is special not only because it is located in the Hyndburn district, but also because it is part of one of the largest counties in England: Lancashire.
Accrington Observer is also one of the sections of the Lancs Live website, which, apart from covering communities throughout Accrington, focuses on other areas of the greater Lancashire such as Blackpool, Lancaster, Burnley, Preston, Morecambe and Chorley. Accrington Observer currently belongs to the popular newspaper MEN Media (Manchester Evening News) and of course, this makes it a member of the prestigious British Editorial Group: Reach PLC (formerly called Trinity Mirror).
Since 1887, in the Victorian heyday of the city of Accrington, when MEN Media was recently expanding, Accrington Observer is born. Since its inception, the newspaper has been known for keeping local people and other neighbouring villages, as well as other local people in Lancashire County, up to date.
Today the newspaper has a daily circulation of 14,887. It also has the vast support of 32,665 readers according to the official website of MEN media. Accrington Observer’s personnel editor is Mervyn Kay, who relies on her duties as deputy editor Janet Woolley.
